WKNC to hold benefit concert Feb. 2

WKNC 88.1 will hold its fourth annual Double Barrel Benefit Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 3 at King’s Barcade in Raleigh.

Friday night will include performances by Megafaun, The Old Ceremony, The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers and The Mountain Goats. Saturday features music by Future Islands, Tiger Bear Wolf, Annuals and The Nein.

Tickets are available now through wknc.org or kingsbarcade.com. Tickets are $6 in advance or $8 at the door for each night, and all proceeds benefit WKNC. Doors for each show open at 9 p.m.

Begun in 2004, the two-night event has become a highly anticipated annual showcase of music from the Triangle and throughout North Carolina. Past years have seen breakout performances from such bands as Strange, A Rooster for the Masses, We Versus The Shark, Birds of Avalon, and The Dynamite Brothers. The Double Barrel Benefit has grown into the signature event for the station, and has seen attendance increase with each year’s incarnation.

The station’s previous effort, Double Barrel Benefit 3, was named by Independent Weekly as one of its favorite shows of 2006 and “this incarnation should prove even better,” said Jamie Lynn Gilbert, the station’s adviser.

WKNC 88.1 FM is a student-run, non-commercial, educational radio station that broadcasts at 25,000 watts directly from the North Carolina State University campus.
