Triangle Downtowner names WKNC Best Radio Station
Triangle Downtowner magazine, a locally-owned and operated monthly focused on the Triangle area, named WKNC 88.1 FM as the region’s top radio station in its 4th annual Best of Downtowner awards. More than 10,000 votes were cast in the contest and winners in more than 130 categories were announced in the May issue.
“It’s always exciting to be recognized for the hard work the students put in to WKNC,” Jamie Lynn Gilbert, WKNC station adviser, said. “Honors like this and Independent Weekly’s Best of the Triangle really show that WKNC is an important asset to not only the N.C. State community, but to Raleigh and the whole Triangle area.”
WKNC earned the best radio station title in 2013 and 2012 and was second place in 2011. Triangle Downtowner also recognized WSHA 88.9 FM, WBBB Radio 96.1 FM, WRAL Mix 101.5 FM, WDCG G105.1 FM, and Little Raleigh Radio as “reader favorites.”
