WKNC wins Pinnacle and Film Festival awards

WKNC took home five awards at the Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Association Fall National College Media Convention Oct. 25-28 in Louisville, Ky.

In CMA’s Pinnacle awards, Public Affairs Director Nick Weaver earned first place in Best Radio Talk/Entertainment Program for his review of the album “Mister Mellow” by Washed Out. The review segment, called “Modest Mouth,” aired as part of the “Eye on the Triangle” public affairs program.

Protected Class: Moses T. Alexander Greene” earned third place for Best Podcast. Produced by Carter Pape, the podcast featured an interview with Greene, director of the NC State African American Cultural Center.

WKNC also earned a third place slot of Best Viral Video for “Hopscotch Apple Bake” by Katelyn Auger. Published in September 2017, the video has received more than 1,500 views on Facebook.

The radio station also received its first-ever recognition in the CMA Film Festival. Public Affairs Director Marissa Jerden’sThe Living Room Experience” about the Raleigh DIY music scene earned second place in the audio documentary category, while Pape’s “The History of DASA” came in third.
