Student Media sets Assessment Goals for 2013-2014

Student Media has selected two departmental objectives to assess during the 2013-2014 academic year: Student Media staff will be knowledgeable of current journalism, broadcasting and marketing practices in print, audio, video and online and Student Media will produce quality products and programming.

Student Media has selected two departmental objectives to assess during the 2013-2014 academic year. The first objective – Student Media staff will be knowledgeable of current journalism, broadcasting and marketing practices in print, audio, video and online – will be assessed according to the staff’s ability to share information in multiple formats. The traditional journalism practice of a single printed product or broadcast is no longer sustainable as readers, viewers and listeners consume media online and on demand. Assessment measures will include website and app traffic, podcast downloads, and social media interaction.

The second objective – Student Media will produce quality products and programming – will be evaluated through a survey of Technician sources designed to gauge whether those quoted perceive the newspaper as fair and accurate. The survey will run through the fall 2013 and spring 2014 semesters.
