Technician 100: Celebrating a century of student journalism at NC State University since 1920

Technician will celebrate a century of student journalism at NC State the weekend of Feb. 1, 2020, the anniversary of its first issue. The Technician 100 committee and NC State Student Media invite all Technician alumni to return to campus for an epic celebration.

The weekend will feature opportunities to catch up with friends, panel discussions on notable moments in Technician history and a film screening of “Hondros.” A Saturday night gala in the new Talley Student Union will feature food, drink, a photo booth, displays from an upcoming NC State University Libraries exhibit on Technician and more.

The events will be held across campus from the evening of Friday, Jan. 31 through mid-day on Sunday, Feb. 2.

Get Nostalgic

If your walk down memory lane includes sifting through old hard drives, scrapbooks or boxes of prints or negatives and you dig up some photos you’d like to share, we’d love to see them! Submit photos of you and your Technician friends working (or playing) during your time at NC State using this photo submission form. The Technician 100 committee will use photos for the weekend, and the current Technician editorial team will make use of some in commemorative Technician 100 publications.

If you’d like to spread the word on social media, too, tag the celebration with #Technician100.

Be a Part of History

To help celebrate this historic milestone, the Technician staff is putting together a special piece looking back at the history of Technician — and by extension, NC State as a whole. The concept behind the piece is “100 years in 100 pages.” It will feature articles from the Technician’s archives, as well as pieces for, about and by our alumni, students, faculty and staff.  We will be printing 5,000 copies, most of which will be placed on newsstands from Jan. 31 through the end of the spring semester. (We will be setting aside several hundred for alumni and friends of the paper attending our 100th anniversary gala weekend Jan. 31-Feb. 2.) The piece will be 8.5″X11″ and will be printed on glossy stock with a book-type binding, as we know most who pick it up will keep it for posterity. The deadline for space reservations is November 17. If you or your business or organization is interested in advertising in the piece, please complete this brief interest form and we will be in touch with you shortly. Pricing and other information can be found here.
