Student Media Updates

Jan. 12, 2021

Technician will resume regular web updates and its weekly newsletter on Jan. 21, with Thursday, Jan. 28 scheduled as the only print edition of the semester. Nubian Message and Roundabout will not print in spring 2021 and will instead focus on their digital presence.

Nov. 4, 2020

WKNC will offer a hybrid DJ training model for the spring 2021 semester. Interest meetings and classes will take place over Zoom, while one-on-one in-studio training will still be held in person.

Aug. 21, 2020

With the move to online-only classes Aug. 24, Technician, Nubian Message and Roundabout paused their printed editions to concentrate on their digital platforms for the 2020 fall semester, but little else will change for NC State Student Media.

Technician and Nubian Message will continue to update their websites and social media platforms continuously with news, sports, arts and entertainment, opinion pieces and other information of interest to the NC State community. Roundabout, Student Media’s newest publication, will use this pause in its print schedule to build and launch its own digital platforms.

WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1/HD-2 will continue broadcasting 24/7/365, and student DJs will continue to broadcast live from the station’s studio in Witherspoon Student Center.

Agromeck, NC State’s yearbook, and Windhover, NC State’s literary and visual arts magazine, are also planning to publish both their books as usual; Windhover is traditionally released each April, and Agromecks are shipped to students’ homes each August.

Finally, the Student Business and Marketing Office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. It is located at 307 Witherspoon, and the main office number is (919) 515-2411.

All Student Media groups have adopted a hybrid in-person/remote work model to ensure a safe working environment for both the students and professional staff members.

With that in mind, the Student Media Board of Directors will meet virtually until further notice. Its regular meetings are scheduled for Sept. 8, Oct. 13, Nov. 10, Jan. 12, March 2 and April 13. Each meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and are open to the public. To virtually attend any of these meetings, contact Patrick Neal, Director of Student Media Advising, at pcneal@ncsu.edu for a link to the meeting.

June 26, 2020

WKNC has moved its fall DJ interest meetings to Zoom. They will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 5 and Monday, Aug. 10 at 6 p.m.

June 18, 2020

WKNC’s Concert on the Lawn and Student Media Block Party during Wolfpack Welcome Week will not be held.

April 1, 2020

WKNC’s summer DJ training program, scheduled for May 20-June 24, has been canceled.

March 18, 2020

Student Media’s offices on the third floor of Witherspoon closed on March 18 and will remain closed until further notice. The April 14 Student Media Board of Director’s meeting is canceled.

The Student Media Business and Marketing Office is working remotely. Advertisers can contact media-sales@ncsu.edu for online and social media advertising opportunities for any of our outlets.

Agromeck is still scheduled to be completed in May 2020 and printed for a fall 2020 delivery. Books are still available for pre-order.

Nubian Message will cease biweekly print publication until students return to campus, but will continue reporting online.

Roundabout will publish its spring 2020 edition online. The summer 2020 welcome to campus issue will still be printed.

Technician will cease weekly print publication until students return to campus but will continue reporting online.

Windhover has canceled its Open Mic Night scheduled for March 19. The book is completed and will be printed, although distribution is TBD.

WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1/HD-2 will run automated or pre-recorded programming with no live DJs until further notice.
