Student leaders hired for 2014-2015

N.C. State Student Media hired five of its top leaders for the 2015-2016 academic year at a special March 17 Board of Directors meeting.

Molly DonovanAgromeck design editor Molly Donovan, a junior in communication-public relations, will serve as editor-in-chief for the book’s 114th edition. In her position paper, Donovan outlined several ideas for selling Agromeck, including having an information table in Talley Student Union twice a week, selling books at football games and updating the website and social media to generate interest among the student body. Donovan was previously editor-in-chief of the Quotannis yearbook at Enloe High School in Raleigh.

Matt BrownMatt Brown, a junior in electrical engineering, is WKNC’s newest general manager. He previously served as the station’s operations manager and creative services director. In his position paper, Brown detailed his ideas for improving workflow in the indie rock music department to refresh the station’s music rotation. Brown was asked by the Student Media Board to present a plan for generating additional revenue for the station to confirm his appointment, which was done on April 23.

Chris Hart-WilliamsNubian Message editor-in-chief Chris Hart-Williams will remain in that position through the fall 2015 semester. Hart-Williams, a senior in political science, used his position paper to address goals of a consistent and current layout for the newspaper and an increase in staff-generated photography. Hart-Williams’ appointment was accepted with conditions outlined in the board minutes. Hart-Williams will graduate in December 2015, so a new editor will need to be hired for the spring 2016 semester.

Mark TateMark Tate, a junior business administration and international studies, will also retain his position as the Student Media business and marketing office manager. Tate addressed issues of staff recruitment and motivation, along with a restructuring of the marketing department to better balance workload, in his position paper. The business office is responsible for sales and marketing efforts of the other five media outlets.

 

Kaitlin MontgomeryTechnician will be led by Katilin Montgomery as editor-in-chief, a junior in communication-media. Montgomery joined Technician her freshmen year, but spent the most recent year as assignments editor for Agromeck. She advocated for a stronger web and multimedia presence in her position paper, along with greater collaboration among media and more photo-based assignments.

 

Kaanchee GandhiKaanchee Gandhi, a freshman in graphic design, was hired as Windhover editor in a special April 23 board meeting. In her position paper, Gandhi addressed creating a sense of community among the Windhover committees.
