WKNC staff raise money for Habitat for Humanity
WKNC 88.1 FM was one of 16 North Carolina State University organizations that raised money for the N.C. State chapter of Habitat for Humanity by participating in the annual Shack-a-thon. Groups constructed shacks out of wood and other materials and spent the week living on the campus’s brickyard to raise money and awareness for Habitat.

Promotions director Nicole Griffin and Chief Engineer John Jernigan were integral in securing a place for WKNC amidst the Habitat shacks, said Jamie Lynn Gilbert, the station’s adviser.
“I thought it was important for us to participate in Shack because we had the opportunity to let students on campus know about WKNC while supporting another non-profit organization,” said Griffin, a junior in communication/media.
“It was the first time WKNC had participated and brought the staff closer together,” said Brian Ware, the station’s general manager and a senior in communication/media. “It was a great success.”
WKNC raised about $450 for Habitat for Humanity and offset its costs by seeing about $150 worth of T-shirts. The event raised more than $20,000 overall.
