On Thursday, Oct. 18, Windhover hosted its annual Fall Open Mic night, the first major event of the year for the literary magazine. Guests packed in to Caldwell lounge to witness artists perform original content, showcasing the immense level of student talent and creativity here at State. The event hosted veteran and newcomer performers alike, giving artists an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and receive feedback on their works.
The successful showcase featured a variety of performances by the student body, including poetry readings, flash fiction, short stories, spoken word and musical acts. In addition to the performances, guests were also treated with refreshments, a decorative photo booth, and an opportunity to snag some Windhover stickers and koozies. Emcee for the evening and the literary magazine’s editor-in-chief, Xenna Smith, urged all performers to submit to this year’s edition of Windhover; announcing that submissions are now open through the website, and will extend until the priority deadline of Dec. 7.
In addition to accepting visual art, literary works, and audio submissions, Smith revealed that for the first time in the magazine’s history, video submissions will now be accepted. With the addition of this exciting new medium and the diverse talent showcased at Open Mic, this year’s edition of Windhover is poised to be a standout.
