Editor/Manager Hiring 2013-2014

Applications for Student Media leaders for the 2013-2014 academic year are now open. A position package from each applicant will be due Thursday, Feb. 21 at noon to 307 Witherspoon. The next two steps in the application process are the candidate forum and advisory board meeting.

Important dates for students considering leadership positions for 2013-2014—

  • Position papers for student leader applicants will be due Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at noon.
  • The candidate forum will be Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013.
  • Advisory board meetings will take place between Feb. 22 and March 11, 2013
  • Spring break is March 4-8, 2013.
  • Board meeting for official hiring of student leaders is March 12, 2013.

Applications for Student Media leaders for the 2013-2014 academic year will open in January 2013. A POSITION PACKAGE from each applicant will be due Thursday, Feb. 21 at noon to 307 Witherspoon. The next two steps in the application process are the candidate forum and advisory board meeting.

On Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. all applicants will appear at a public CANDIDATE FORUM to answer questions about their vision for Agromeck, the Business Office, Nubian Message, TechnicianWindhover, and WKNC 88.1 FM. The forum, in 201 Witherspoon, is a public meeting open to anyone who wants to attend.

ADVISORY BOARD MEETINGS will convene between Feb. 22 and March 11 for each of the four media groupings – newspaper, broadcast, annual publications, and the business office. N.C. State’s spring break is March 4-8, during which no meetings will be scheduled.

The final step is the full STUDENT MEDIA BOARD MEETING on Tuesday, March 12 at 7 p.m. in location TBA. During the meeting, a member from each individual advisory board will make a recommendation to the Student Media Board. The Board may then accept the recommendation and hire that candidate, reject the recommendation and interview the candidate(s), or choose to hire no candidate and reopen applications.

  • Facilitators are ex-officio, non-voting members. Editors do not vote on their successors.
  • The advisory board for the business office makes the final decision. No Student Media Board action is required on this position.
  • All meetings are open to the public.
  • Candidates should not sit in on the statements or interviews of other candidates for the same position.
  • The advisory board may move into executive (closed) session for deliberations.
